Becoming Catholic (RCIA)

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

The RCIA program is a process designed for people who wish to become members of the Catholic Church.

Candidates may be individuals who have not been baptized, or were baptized in another Christian church.  Perhaps this individual has not yet been initiated into the church via either Baptism or Confirmation.  RCIA is also a program for Catholics who may not have been practicing their faith and wish to return, or perhaps a non-Catholic spouse wishing to learn more about the Catholic faith.

RCIA involves an inquiry period, exploring beliefs, traditions and giving opportunity to explore and ask questions.  In the time preceding Lent, attention is given to reflect on the Catholic Church and its meaning and processes with special focus on the Sacraments.  During Lent the focus is on Sacramental Preparation by the Candidates.

Following this deep and meaningul preparation by RCIA Candidates, they are initiated and welcomed into the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil on the Easter weekend.
