Becoming Catholic

RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Our RCIA program has begun, and we are looking for prayer partners!

  • What do you have to do? Pray…for one of the inquirers as they journey.
  • Do you have to come to meetings? No…but you may be invited to a meeting and the Rite of Election at the Cathedral if you would like to come.
  • Do I come to church with them? Come to mass when you usually come, but you will be informed when rites (like the Scrutinies) take place so you can attend that mass if you wish to see your candidate.
  • Call the parish office to express your interest 519-885-4480

The RCIA program is a process designed for people who wish to become members of the Catholic Church.

Candidates may be individuals who have not been baptized, or were baptized in another Christian church.  Or perhaps this individual was baptized as a child and never continued with the second and third Sacraments of Initiation – Eucharist and Confirmation. RCIA is also a program for Catholics who may not have been practicing their faith and wish to return, or perhaps a non-Catholic spouse wishing to learn more about the Catholic faith.

RCIA involves an inquiry period, exploring beliefs, traditions and giving opportunity to explore and ask questions.  In the time preceding Lent, attention is given to reflect on the Catholic Church and its meaning and processes with special focus on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Sacraments.  During Lent the focus is on Sacramental Preparation by the Candidates.

Following this deep and meaningul preparation by RCIA Candidates, they are initiated and welcomed into the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil on the Easter weekend.

For more information or to enroll in the RCIA program, please contact our parish office:   519.885.4480  or office@saintagnescatholicchurch.org

We welcome you!
